EVENT Review – The Rockabilly Women Show – Friday 6 March 2015 featuring Narelle Evans

The Rockabilly Women ShowEVENT:
The Rockabilly Women
DATE:  Friday 6 March 2015
VENUE:  Django Bar, Cnr Railway Pde
and Marrickville Rd. Marrickville
PERFORMERS:   NARELLE EVANS & The Jetbacks (feat. Jack Evans guitar, Antero Cheschin drums and Chris Perry bass)
REVIEW:   I’ve always had a soft spot for 50’s Rock’n’Roll… Little Richard, Elvis, Chuck Berry, etc. but until I saw Emelda May perform I’d never really listened to Rockabilly music.

The Rockabilly Women show not only brings to life the music and stories of four women who pioneered the genre, it makes you want to jump up and dance in celebration.
During the show Narelle Evans relayed stories from the lives of these four gutsy gals while showcasing a variety of rockabilly styles supported admirably by the Jetbacks.
Entertainment of this calibre isn’t easy to find, and with her vocal talent and ability to portray the very essence of the women she’s presenting, Narelle has tapped into and captured the heart and soul of Rockabilly.

the lead on some of the songs, Jack Evans performing searing solo’s and Antero laying down the groove, the show’s momentum didn’t skip a beat when Narelle momentarily disappeared for costume changes, reappearing wearing yet another fabulous frock and bringing authenticity and creativity to the show.

The enthusiastic capacity crowd lapped up every moment, demanding an encore which was thoroughly appreciated.  I wouldn’t hesitate to go and see this show again, and next time I’ll take a proper camera so I can get some decent shots!
